Our Maternity Nurses are all mature, highly qualified, experienced and skilled individuals, many of which come from a nursing or midwifery background or are Nannies with 5 - 20 years nanny experience. Candidates are either qualified through experience or have undergone further training (Babyem Maternity Nurse Course) specifically in the care of new born babies and new mothers.
Maternity Nurse Responsibilities
A Maternity Nurse will live with your family and provide you with invaluable support and knowledge from the time you arrive home with your new baby for normally 4 -12 weeks.
Maternity nurses usually sleep in the same room as the baby at night so that they can deal with the night feeds ensuring minimal disturbance to the rest of the family. If you are breast feeding, the maternity nurse may bring the baby to you to be fed and resettle the baby afterwards.
The Maternity Nurse will work with the mother supporting her in the care of her new born, including, when appropriate, giving guidance and support on techniques for bathing, feeding (either breast or bottle) and routines.
Maternity Nurses are self-employed and responsible for paying their own Tax and National Insurance. Their salaries can vary according to experience and whether they are responsible for a single baby, twins or triplets. The following salaries are a guideline only and some very experienced nurses may charge a little more:
